The most frustrating thing in my life is peoples inability to be proactive…
Our society has become mostly passive reactive, we wait for people to sit up and do something first before we get around to making any change ourselves and for the most part we’ve not even really changed anything, we’re just responding passively to others productivity.
It’s as prevalent in our day to day lives as it is in our workplaces.
No one wants to put their head above the parapet.
In the 40’s, men were willing to go and have bullets whizz by their heads daily for the sake of their nation and women too were rolling up their sleeves to work in munitions factories, or to break incoming codes for 12 hours on the trot…
But not today!
Today we’re in a haze, we’re privileged and vain.
I’ve lost count of the companies I’ve worked for over the years, bleeding money in the wrong areas and skipping home “happy as Larry” about it.
So why is this the case. It’s the case because people are living in fear. They’re living in fear of breaking social norms, the protocol that’s been ingrained in us since childhood, that stand in line mentality, there are no longer many Oliver Twist’s out there willing to ask for the chance to thrive… but at the end of the day, it worked out pretty well for him…
We need to hold ourselves accountable for our life choices and we need not be afraid anymore to make waves, to ask questions…
One of my favourite quote from ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’ is:
“To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, to draw closer, to find each other and to feel. That is the purpose of LIFE.”
We should all be so lucky that we find that state of mind before it’s too late. But many of us will never make it.
I’m not saying it’s easy, I’ve been ostracised for most of my life in pretty much every avenue because I try and push for more than just what I’ve been issued by “the gods” shall we say… to strive for more is to find more hurt, more sadness, more fear and more pain, but I believe in my future liberation…
A wealthy entrepreneur said to me not so long back, “Thomas I’d invest in you but there are two sides to the coin, you’re either going to be sitting at the top of the Forbes list or you’re going to be a complete disaster, there’s no grey area.”
Fundamentally I’m not a fan of the colour grey anyway and I couldn’t care less about whether Forbes deem me worthy of their accolades, money is irrelevant in reality, it’s just a suppressant against living an actual life, a target never to realistically be achieved… People who have it for the most part don’t understand what to do with it, people without it, kill themselves trying to get at it and we miss everything along the way in every instance because we’re blinded by what others think of our progress on the societal scale, or whether they deem us as worthy of standing alongside them.
We are NOT present!
We are burdened by what happened to us previously in the past, or blinded by what we need to achieve in the future, but we are not really fully understanding of the moments that make us real.
It’s time to sit up and pay attention, are you truly happy in who you are and what you’ve become? I’m not… but I won’t lay down and wait to become the disaster in the above scenario, there has to be something bigger than that out there for all of us. The choice is simply ours and we have to get up every day and go out and achieve something that means something…
That’s the end of my rant for the moment, I’m failing every day inside and out, but whether you consistently bet on red or black, the colour always changes at some point!
